INTRODUCTION TO DENTAL ASSISTING

This course is designed to present the basic principles of dental assisting. The student will obtain an overview of the dental profession.
Maria Brown, RDA This course is a review for the General Chairside Examination, one of the components for the Certified Dental Assistant CDA, national certification. The course is designed to prepare the student to take the General Chairside exam administered through the Dental Assisting National Board, DANB. This is a review not a pass / fail course. Candidates for this course must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent, a minimum of two years full time work experience as a Dental Assistant, verified in writing by your supervising dentist, and a current certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, CPR. This course provides 40 hours of instruction. It is presented in a power point lecture with illustrations. The enrollment for this course is limited to 30 students.
By completing this course and by passing the Dental Assistant National Board exam, the dental assistant will show her / his commitment to the profession of Dental Assisting and the desire to provide quality patient care.
Students will be given practice tests throughout the course to simulate question content that will be administered on the Infection Control Exam. This course provides 12 hours of instruction. The enrollment for this course is limited to 30 students.

Maria Brown, RDA, Instructor
Maria Brown is a registered dental assistant, and has been a certified assistant in both general dentistry and orthodontics. Ms. Brown has spent several years as a treatment planning coordinator for a large multi-specialty dental group practice and has extensive experience presenting complex treatment plans to patients. Ms. Brown has attended numerous dental conventions all over the United States, both general and cosmetic. She has acquired an exceptional knowledge of the educational and needs of dental health professionals. Ms. Brown has held the following positions in the dental field: dental assistant, orthodontic, dental receptionist and dental office manager. She is currently one of the administrators for NJHPDI, having been instrumental in its development since inception.
Rina Napolitano-Nowka, RDH, MA

Rina Nowka is a practicing dental hygienist for over 20 years. She received her RDH at Bergen Community College and her Masters of Arts Degree in Health Education from Montclair State University. For 9 years, Ms. Nowka was a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Dental Hygiene Program at NYU College of Dentistry. Ms. Nowka worked for Colgate Oral Pharmaceutical as a Professional Sales Representative and National Trainer.
