Dental Radiology
Dental Radiology Course For The NJ X-Ray License

This course is designed to present the basic principles of dental radiology. The student will be trained on the origin, production and utilization of radiation in dentistry. Emphasis is placed on the concepts of radiation safety and patient management. 


The course includes: 25 lecture hours, 15 laboratory hours, and 30 hours (onsite or offsite) of supervised clinical education. The student will gain practical experience in exposing, processing, and mounting dental radiographs of diagnostic quality.

The Dental Radiology Course for Dental Assistants is accredited by the New Jersey Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners. Successful completion of the course will fulfill the educational requirements for the NJ Dental Radiology License Examination.

NJHPDI has been recognized by the State of NJ as having one of the highest percentile passage rate (with a passing rate of 94%).

Meet our Instructors

Rina Napolitano-Nowka Rina Napolitano-Nowka, RDH, MA
Radiology Curriculum Director/Instructor


Rina Nowka is a practicing dental hygienist for over 20 years. She received her RDH at Bergen Community College and her Masters of Arts Degree in Health Education from Montclair State University. For 9 years, Ms. Nowka was a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Dental Hygiene Program at NYU College of Dentistry. Ms. Nowka worked for Colgate Oral Pharmaceutical as a Professional Sales Representative and National Trainer. She has published in the Journal of Dental Education and has lectured at numerous dental health related meetings.

Bea BuccosBea Buccos, RDH, MA 
Instructor


Bea Buccos has both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Allied Health Services and a Master of Arts Degree in Health Education from Montclair State University. Ms. Buccos has a teaching certificate in elementary education and teaches in North Bergen. As an Adjunct Professor at Bergen Community College, Ms. Buccos has taught courses to dental students and dentists. She has also taught at the University of Connecticut and at UMDNJ in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Ms. Buccos as a liaison between Delta Dental Plan of New Jersey and the dental community, responsible for building and certifying the network of dentists.

Maria BrownMaria Brown,  RDA
Laboratory & Clinical Instructor


Maria Brown is a registered dental assistant, and has been a certified assistant in both general dentistry and orthodontics. Ms. Brown has spent several years as a treatment planning coordinator for a large multi-specialty dental group practice and has extensive experience presenting complex treatment plans to patients. Ms. Brown has attended numerous conventions all over the United States, both general and. She has acquired an exceptional knowledge of the educational and practice needs of dental health professionals. Ms. Brown has held the following positions in the dental field: dental assistant, orthodontic assistant, dental receptionist and dental office manager. She is currently one of the administrators for NJHPDI, having been in its development since inception. Ms. Brown also teaches Basic Life Support to Healthcare Providers.
