Course Description:
Tooth extraction without concomitant socket grafting results in osseous deformities of the alveolar ridge, such as reduced height and width.
This makes subsequent management of esthetics and implant placement very challenging.
Socket grafting using a bone graft substitute has been shown to significantly reduce the bone loss, better maintain the ridge dimensions, and enhance the clinician’s ability to provide esthetically and functionally satisfying restorations at a later time.
New approaches now include use of L-PRF (Leukocyte-Platelet Rich Fibrin) obtained from the patient’s venous blood to significantly augment osseous regeneration and overall wound healing.
This course will help you understand site development principles and bone grafting and L-PRF protocols leading to the optimal foundation for esthetics and implant success. Attendees will gain the skill sets necessary to achieve predictable hard tissue augmentation and work with grafting materials in a hands-on setting.
Hands-On portion:
- Principles of successful hard tissue augmentation
- Placement of bone grafts (performed on pig jaws following extraction)
- Instrumentation used to successfully perform bone augmentation
- Steps of socket grafting including incision design, flap management, bone graft and L-PRF, membrane, and suture
- Post-op sequalae
- Bone grafting complications
- Bone graft & membrane placement
- Suture technique
- Attendees (optional) will also learn essentials of Venipuncture on each other
- Processing of L-PRF using IntraSpin System (Biohorizons)
- Applications to Bone Grafting Sites
