Dr. Louis R. Vita’s practice focuses specifically on the diagnosis, treatment and pain relief from injuries and illnesses involving the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ). He established The VITA TMJ Clinical Studies and Training Center to offer continuing education courses and seminars to dentists, dental hygienists and other medical professionals where he teaches how to recognize the signs and symptoms of TMJ and cervical spine disorders, how the two disorders can be related, and appropriate treatment protocols. The Vita Head Neck and Facial Pain Relief Center was established in 2003 to treat patients with head and neck pain.

Dr. Vita is a graduate of Georgetown University Dental School in Washington, DC. He continued his studies at the Piper Education and Research Center and the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study. In addition to many dental memberships, he also maintains active memberships in the New Jersey Pankey Study Group, American Equilibration Society, L. D. Pankey Alumni Association, American Headache Society, Trigeminal Neuralgia Association, Empire State Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Piper/McKee Study Club for TMJ Disorders, and the American Academy of Facial Cosmetics.

Study and research projects have led to many publications including Atlas Misalignments and TMJ Symptoms: Journal of NJ Dental Association, Fall 2010, Assessing Progressive Anterior Open Bite: Journal of NJ Dental Association, Winter 2011, and Facial Pain of Non-Odontogenic Origin: White Paper.

Dr. Vita serves as an attending dentist at Hackensack University Medical Center where he is the Section Chief of the TMJ and Facial Pain Department and is a member of the Board of Trustees. He maintains a private practice in general dentistry in Clifton, N.J.
